The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) is preparing to build a brand-new township, being called New Agra Urban Center. Spread over 9,000 hectares, this upcoming smart city is planned to host 14.6 lakh people and promises to be one of the most well-planned urban developments in Uttar Pradesh.
Inspired by the city layout of Chandigarh, the New Agra project focuses on a green, environment-friendly design. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been prepared, covering every aspect of residential, industrial, commercial, and social development.
A City Designed for Comfortable Living and Employment
According to Yeida officials, the township will not just offer housing but also generate employment opportunities for lakhs of people. Around 1,813 hectares have been earmarked for industries, providing space for eco-friendly white and green industries, especially around the Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ) to protect the Taj Mahal from pollution.
To support balanced living, the master plan includes:
- 2,501 hectares for residential use
- 447 hectares for mixed-use zones with shops, offices, and homes
- 322 hectares for entertainment areas like malls, cinemas, and parks
- 340 hectares for commercial development, such as retail hubs and office spaces
- 244 hectares for institutions, including schools and hospitals
Residents will enjoy all facilities within walking distance. Separate walking lanes and reduced dependence on vehicles will help make this a pedestrian-friendly city.
A Green City with Environmental Focus
A major highlight of the New Agra project is its green design. The plan ensures 823 hectares of Yamuna river buffer zone to protect the river’s ecosystem. Additionally:
- 485 hectares will be green belt areas
- 434 hectares will be reserved for agriculture and forest conservation
- The city layout will limit pollution and maintain a healthy environment
The master plan also includes climate-conscious designs and modern urban infrastructure with wide roads, underground cabling, and water management systems. The aim is to ensure a clean, sustainable, and organised lifestyle for future residents.
Land Acquisition and Villages Included
To make space for this modern township, 58 villages will be included in the plan. Land acquisition will be done by Yeida as per rules. The township will be developed in phases and may become a major urban hub near Agra, connecting well with the Yamuna Expressway and other major roads.
With this smart and eco-friendly urban project, Yeida is taking a big step in reshaping the way future cities are built in India. The New Agra Urban Center aims to be a model of modern development, combining tradition, growth, and sustainability all in one blueprint.
