Great news is on the horizon for residents of Noida and Greater Noida as construction for the much-awaited metro and rapid rail network is set to begin in the next four months. This 72.44 km long infrastructure project will stretch from Ghaziabad’s RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System) corridor to Jewar Airport, bringing a massive boost to connectivity in the region.
This project isn’t just about easing traffic congestion—it’s expected to significantly accelerate development in the Greater Noida West region. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has already approved funding for the project, clearing the way for construction to begin soon.
Metro, Rapid Rail, and Light Rail on One Route
One of the most unique aspects of this project is that it will integrate metro, rapid rail, and light rail transit (LRT) services along a single route. This marks the first time in India that three types of rail services will operate simultaneously on one track. Out of the 72.44 km stretch, 71.5 km will be elevated, while 1.29 km will run underground. A total of 22 stations are planned for the route, 21 of which will be elevated, and one will be underground.
Long-Awaited Metro Expansion for Greater Noida West
Residents of Greater Noida West have long been calling for improved metro services in the region, and this project will meet those demands—and then some. By integrating rapid rail and light rail services with the metro, the project will triple the benefits for local commuters and travelers. This will not only ease traffic between Ghaziabad, Noida, and Greater Noida but will also significantly enhance travel for those commuting to and from the fast-growing residential and commercial areas of Greater Noida West.
Dr. Arunvir Singh, CEO of YEIDA, explained that the project is far more than just a transportation initiative. It represents a crucial milestone in the broader development of Greater Noida West. The metro will connect key areas, starting from Noida Sector 51 and stretching all the way to Jewar Airport, passing through Greater Noida West.
Boosting Connectivity and Development
The project aims to enhance connectivity for the region’s residents while boosting real estate, infrastructure, and commercial development. With metro services soon to connect Noida Sector 51 to Knowledge Park-5, and with rapid rail links from Sector 4 in Greater Noida, the area will benefit from much stronger transportation networks.
According to Arunvir Singh, the NCRTC (National Capital Region Transport Corporation) will be the primary source of funding for the project. If additional funds are required, a loan of ₹30,529 crore will be taken from the state’s HUDCO (Housing and Urban Development Corporation) to ensure that the project stays on track.
Timeline and Future Plans
The first phase of the project is expected to be completed within the next four to five years, with work on 25 stations to commence in the initial phase. A total of 38 stations are planned, with the remaining 13 to be completed in subsequent phases. According to officials, final approval from the central government is expected within the next four months, at which point construction will officially begin.
Interestingly, there are also plans to extend the Sarai Kale Khan-Ghaziabad rapid rail corridor all the way to Delhi International Airport, making it a truly multi-modal transportation hub for the National Capital Region (NCR). This will allow commuters from Greater Noida West to seamlessly travel to different parts of Delhi and beyond.
Real Estate and Commercial Growth Expected to Skyrocket
The arrival of metro and rapid rail services is expected to have a transformative impact on the local real estate market. Manoj Gaur, Chairman of CREDAI NCR and CMD of Gaur Group, expressed optimism that this project will turn the 72 km corridor into a prime residential and commercial destination. As connectivity improves, the demand for property is expected to surge, with both local residents and investors benefiting from new opportunities.
Other industry experts, such as Sanchit Bhutani, Managing Director of Group 108, and Ajendra Singh, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Spectrum Metro, agree that the metro’s arrival will accelerate development. They note that wherever metro lines have been introduced in India, surrounding areas have seen rapid growth in terms of infrastructure, business opportunities, and residential projects.
Sanjay Sharma, Director of SKA Group, also highlighted that the metro project will give Greater Noida West a brand-new identity. The region is poised to become a top choice for both residents and businesses, making it a crucial hub in the NCR’s development.
Final Thoughts
With work on this mega-project set to begin in just a few months, the future looks incredibly promising for the residents of Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad. Improved transportation infrastructure will not only ease daily commutes but also spark rapid growth in real estate and commerce, bringing new life and opportunities to these fast-developing areas. Keep an eye out for the exciting developments that this metro project will bring!
