The much-anticipated merger of Vistara and Air India will take effect on the night of November 11, 2024. From November 12 onward, Vistara’s aircraft will fly under Air India’s banner, but frequent Vistara flyers can relax—many in-flight experiences will remain the same for a while. The merger doesn’t mean immediate changes in service; Vistara’s well-regarded offerings, including its cabin crew, menu, and overall experience, will stay intact for the time being. Here’s what passengers need to know.

Vistara’s In-flight Experience Stays for Now

Even though the merger means that Vistara will no longer operate as a separate brand, passengers can still expect the same experience they’ve grown to appreciate. Whether it’s the familiar crew, the menu, or even the seat comfort, loyal Vistara travelers will still enjoy the same services for a while. The aircraft and service routes of Vistara will operate in the same way but will now be labeled under Air India.

    Recognizing Your Vistara Flight Post-Merger

While Vistara’s aircraft will now fly as Air India, spotting your flight will be simple. Vistara’s current flight codes, which start with “UK,” will switch to “AI,” but with an added twist. For example, if you’re used to booking UK 955, it will now appear as AI 2955. This minor change in the flight code makes it easier for passengers to identify Vistara-origin flights, even after the merger.

Pilots and Cabin Crew: Changes and Similarities

From November 12, pilots from both Vistara and Air India will share the same roster. However, passengers need not worry about the cabin crew, as they will remain separate for some time. The familiar faces of Vistara’s crew will still greet passengers, offering the same level of service and hospitality that Vistara is known for.

Where to Check In After November 12

Post-merger, passengers flying on Vistara’s aircraft will need to check in at Air India counters. The branding at check-in counters and boarding gates will feature Air India, but placards or signs may be used to help passengers unfamiliar with the merger. This approach ensures a smooth transition for travelers while still maintaining familiarity

    Advance Tickets and Vistara Branding

For those who booked Vistara tickets in advance, there’s no need for concern. These tickets will be honored, and passengers will still enjoy the familiar Vistara branding inside the aircraft, including the purple seat covers and signature look. Essentially, your experience aboard the flight will remain the same, even as the official airline brand transitions to Air India.
