Uttar Pradesh is about to set a new record by constructing its longest expressway, connecting Gorakhpur to Panipat in Haryana. This new expressway, stretching 750 kilometers, will make travel between Gorakhpur and Haridwar incredibly faster, reducing the time to just 8 hours. The expressway is expected to benefit a total of 22 districts in the state, especially those near the Nepal border.
Connecting East and West UP
Starting from CM Yogi Adityanath’s hometown, Gorakhpur, the expressway will pass through key districts like Siddharthnagar, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, and Shamli before reaching Panipat. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has already initiated a survey for this route. This expressway will not only link the eastern part of the state with the western region, but it will also offer direct access to Haryana and Delhi, improving overall connectivity.
Extended Route for Better Connectivity
Initially, the expressway was planned to run only up to Shamli, but now the route has been extended to Panipat, making it the largest expressway in Uttar Pradesh. This major infrastructure project will boost connectivity to key religious and industrial destinations, including Haridwar, a popular pilgrimage site.
A Game-Changer for UP’s Infrastructure
This new expressway will surpass the Ganga Expressway, currently the longest in the state, which measures 550 kilometers. The Ganga Expressway is nearing completion and is expected to be fully operational by January, just in time for the Mahakumbh. The Gorakhpur-Panipat expressway, being 200 kilometers longer, will take the crown as the largest in UP, marking a major milestone in the state’s infrastructure development.
Linked to Siliguri Expressway
NHAI’s Project Director, Lalit Kumar Pal, confirmed that this expressway would also link to other major routes like the Siliguri Expressway. This means that travelers will soon have seamless road connectivity from Panipat all the way to West Bengal, creating a significant road network connecting various parts of northern and eastern India.
The construction of this expressway is set to boost not only travel but also the economic development of the regions it connects, making it a significant project for Uttar Pradesh and the surrounding areas.
