Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has introduced the Humsafar Policy, a new initiative aimed at improving facilities on national highways for travelers. Long road trips can be challenging, especially when traveling with family, children, or individuals with special needs. To address these issues, the Humsafar Policy will provide modern amenities on highways, ensuring comfort and safety for all passengers.

    Better Facilities for Travelers

Gadkari announced that this policy will focus on providing clean and well-maintained rest stops on national highways. These rest stops will include basic yet essential facilities like clean toilets, child care rooms, and accessible areas for people with disabilities. The aim is to make highway travel more comfortable for families and individuals on long journeys.

According to a government statement, travelers will also benefit from electric vehicle charging stations, spacious parking areas, and even accommodation options at petrol pump stations along major highways. This policy is not only expected to improve the travel experience but also boost entrepreneurship by creating opportunities for service providers to manage and run these facilities.

Focus on Passenger Comfort and Safety

The Ministry of Road and Transport has emphasized that the Humsafar Policy will enhance the overall experience of highway travel in India. The initiative is designed to make road trips smoother and more enjoyable by ensuring that travelers have access to high-quality, standardized services.

Gadkari also highlighted that the Humsafar brand will become a symbol of safety and comfort on India’s expanding highway network. By providing well-designed and equipped rest stops, the government hopes to set a new standard for highway services in the country.

Highway Travel to Become More Convenient

While expressways in India already offer some of these amenities, the same level of service has not been available on regular highways until now. Gadkari’s Humsafar Policy seeks to bridge that gap by bringing expressway-level facilities to national highways. With clean restrooms, child care rooms, and electric vehicle charging stations, the policy will ensure that highway travel is just as convenient as traveling on an expressway.

Boost to Employment and the Economy

This initiative is not just about passenger comfort. By establishing these rest stops and facilities, the policy will create new jobs and increase livelihood opportunities. Entrepreneurs and small business owners will have the chance to manage and operate these rest areas, contributing to the economy while providing valuable services to travelers.

    Plans for Future Development

The Humsafar Policy is part of the government’s broader vision to develop a world-class highway network. With the rapid expansion of national highways across the country, the policy aims to transform the road infrastructure, making highway travel faster, safer, and more comfortable.

As the policy rolls out, major highways across India will soon be equipped with these modern facilities, benefiting both travelers and the country’s road transport system.
