The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline to update Aadhaar details free of charge until December 14, 2024. This initiative is aimed at encouraging Aadhaar cardholders to keep their demographic information, such as identity and address details, up-to-date.

While updating Aadhaar isn’t mandatory, UIDAI strongly recommends it, especially for those who obtained their Aadhaar over a decade ago and haven’t updated it since. An updated Aadhaar ensures smooth access to government services, better verification, and improved convenience in everyday activities.

    Why Update Aadhaar Details?

Aadhaar has become an essential document, required for everything from opening bank accounts and school admissions to availing of government schemes. Keeping Aadhaar details accurate and updated helps:

    • Facilitate smoother service delivery.
    • Ensure better verification processes.
    • Maintain error-free records for official purposes.

UIDAI highlights that updating Aadhaar details is particularly beneficial for cardholders who acquired their Aadhaar 10 years ago and have never refreshed their information since then.

How to Update Aadhaar for Free

Updating Aadhaar is a simple process that can be done online without any charges. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

    1. Visit the myAadhaar Portal:
      Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.
    2. Log in with Aadhaar Number:
Enter your Aadhaar number and the captcha code. Click on “Send OTP” and verify using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
    3. Choose Document Update Option:
Select the “Document Update” option visible on the dashboard.
    4. Provide Updated Information:
Choose the fields you want to update (identity or address) and proceed.
    5. Upload Documents:
Upload the relevant documents as proof of identity or address.
    6. Verify and Submit:
Double-check the entered details and submit your request. You will receive an Update Request Number (URN) to track the status of your application.

    Why Update Aadhaar Now?

Updating Aadhaar details has become more accessible than ever, and UIDAI has repeatedly extended the deadline to encourage citizens to utilize this facility.

    • Free Service: Save money by updating your Aadhaar online at no cost until December 14, 2024.
    • Ease of Living: Updated Aadhaar details ensure seamless access to various essential services, including banking, SIM card issuance, and pension schemes.
    • Error-Free Verification: Updated records reduce the chances of identity verification issues.

    Final Deadline to Act

The free Aadhaar update initiative, launched in March 2023, has already seen several deadline extensions, but it’s best not to wait. Make the necessary changes online through the myAadhaar portal or visit an Aadhaar Centre for assistance. Keep your records updated and enjoy a hassle-free experience with essential services.
