This comprehensive guide will walk you through both online and offline methods to update your mobile number in your Aadhaar card.

    Your mobile number linked to your Aadhaar serves as a crucial point of contact and verification for various services, including:​

    • One-Time Password (OTP) Verification: Many online services send OTPs to your registered mobile number for authentication. An outdated number can hinder access to these services.​
    • Government Subsidies and Schemes: Benefits from government programs are often communicated and verified through your registered mobile number.​
    • Financial Transactions: Banks and financial institutions use your Aadhaar-linked mobile number for transaction alerts and verification.​

    Online Process to Update Mobile Number in Aadhaar

    As of now, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) does not permit online updates for mobile numbers directly through their portal. However, you can initiate the update process online via the India Post Payment Bank (IPPB) service, which facilitates a doorstep update.​

    Steps to Update Mobile Number Online via IPPB

    1. Access the Service Request Portal:
      • Visit the India Post Service Request page.​
    2. Fill in the Required Details:
      • Enter your name, address, email ID, and the mobile number currently linked to your Aadhaar.​
    3. Select the Appropriate Service:
      • Under ‘Select Service,’ choose ‘IPPB – Aadhaar Services.’​
      • Under ‘Select Sub Category,’ select ‘UIDAI – Mobile/Email to Aadhaar.
    4. Request OTP:
      • Click on ‘Request OTP’ and enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.​
    5. Submit the Request:
      • After entering the OTP, submit the request. You will receive a 7-digit reference number; keep this for future reference.​
    6. Await Home Visit:
      • A postal officer will visit your registered address to collect biometric authentication and process the mobile number update.​
    7. Fee Payment:
      • A fee of Rs.50 will be charged for this service during the home visit.​

    This method offers the convenience of updating your mobile number without visiting a physical center.​

    Offline Process to Update Mobile Number in Aadhaar

    For those who prefer or require an in-person update, visiting an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre is the traditional method.​

    Locating the Nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre

    1. Visit the UIDAI Website:
      • Go to the UIDAI official website.​
    2. Navigate to ‘Locate an Enrolment Centre’:
      • Under the ‘My Aadhaar’ section, select ‘Locate an Enrolment Centre.’​
    3. Search for Centres:
      • You can search by state, pin code, or locality to find the nearest centre.​

    Steps to Update Mobile Number Offline

    1. Visit the Enrolment Centre:
      • Go to the located Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.​
    2. Fill Out the Update Form:
      • Request and complete the Aadhaar Update/Correction Form, specifying your new mobile number.​
    3. Submit the Form and Authenticate:
      • Provide the filled form to the executive and undergo biometric authentication (fingerprint and iris scan).​
    4. Fee Payment:
      • Pay the Rs.50 fee for the update service.​
    5. Receive Acknowledgment:
      • Collect the acknowledgment slip containing the Update Request Number (URN), which can be used to track the status of your update.​

    The update is typically processed within 90 days, but it often reflects much sooner.​

    Checking the Status of Your Mobile Number Update

    After initiating the update, it’s advisable to monitor its status to ensure successful processing.​

    1. Access the UIDAI Status Page:
      • Visit the ‘Check Aadhaar Status’ page on the UIDAI website.​
    2. Enter Details:
