The Central Government has taken another step forward in digital India by launching a new Aadhaar mobile app. This app allows users to verify their identity digitally without carrying a physical Aadhaar card or its photocopy. The app is designed for privacy, security, and ease of use, providing Aadhaar access directly from your phone.
Face ID Login and QR Code Scanning – No Paperwork Needed
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the app on April 8, 2025, through a post on X (formerly Twitter). He explained that users can now verify Aadhaar details using facial recognition, directly through the app. Just like UPI payments using QR codes, the Aadhaar app allows identity verification through QR scan—fast and paperless.
This means:
- No need to carry physical Aadhaar card.
- No need to provide photocopies for verification.
- No manual form-filling or document handling.
Everything will happen digitally and securely, right from your phone.
How the New Aadhaar App Works
The Aadhaar mobile app is currently in beta testing and will soon be available for all users. Once launched fully, here’s what you’ll be able to do:
- Log in using Face ID authentication—no passwords needed.
- Scan QR codes to share your Aadhaar details when asked.
- Control which information you share—only share what is necessary.
- Avoid handing over physical documents or sensitive photocopies.
Just like you scan a QR code to pay money through UPI, this app will let you scan and verify your Aadhaar within seconds.
Benefits of the Aadhaar Mobile App
- Privacy is Protected:
Only the needed Aadhaar details are shared by you. No risk of giving extra information. - No Risk of Data Leaks:

A Big Push Towards Paperless Identity Verification
Speaking at the Aadhaar Dialogue Program, Ashwini Vaishnaw said that Aadhaar is the foundation of India’s digital infrastructure. This new app will make Aadhaar services more secure, simple, and smart for every citizen.
Users will now have more control over their identity, and the government will move one step closer to a fully paperless and digital future.
Stay tuned for the full rollout of the app and further updates. Once available, it will be downloadable from official app stores.
