In a recent move to support legal professionals, the Jharkhand Government has introduced a comprehensive health and accident insurance scheme worth Rs 5 lakh for advocates across the state. Following this decision, the Advocate Welfare Trustee Committee has started distributing forms to district bar associations to enable members to apply for this benefit.
This initiative covers 15,000 members of the Trustee Committee, with an increasing number of advocates now taking membership to avail of this valuable coverage. The committee’s Chair, Advocate General Rajeev Ranjan, has been actively promoting the program, encouraging advocates to enroll in the scheme.
Expanding Support for Young Advocates: Monthly Stipend Increase
In addition to the insurance scheme, the Trustee Committee is focused on supporting young advocates starting their careers. Currently, 500 young advocates in Jharkhand are receiving a stipend of Rs 1,000 per month through the committee’s existing program. However, with new proposals from the state, this amount is expected to rise to Rs 5,000 per month, helping these professionals as they establish themselves in the legal field.
Over the past few weeks, more than 500 advocates have taken lifetime memberships with the committee, reflecting growing interest in these welfare schemes. The committee has also committed to providing continued financial assistance for three years to support young advocates.
New Provisions from the Jharkhand Government for Advocates
The state government has earmarked Rs 13 crore for this fiscal year to ensure the successful implementation of these welfare schemes. The allocation will support various programs for advocates, including health and accident insurance, pensions, and enhanced stipends for young professionals.
The Jharkhand Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, approved these provisions on September 6. This approval not only includes the Rs 5 lakh insurance but also doubles the current pension from Rs 7,000, addressing the financial needs of veteran advocates in the state.
A Commitment to Advocate Welfare Across Jharkhand
Rajeev Ranjan and his team are visiting various districts, encouraging bar association members to join the Trustee Committee and benefit from these schemes. The committee’s ongoing contact campaign has proven effective, with more advocates enrolling for lifetime membership. By covering health and accident risks, the Trustee Committee aims to provide advocates with security in their profession and personal lives.
This new step by the Jharkhand Government reflects a strong commitment to the welfare of the state’s legal professionals, promoting stability and growth among advocates at different stages of their careers.
