Subjects and Syllabus
The syllabus for both these exams is based on the science stream, but they focus on different subjects:
- JEE mainly tests a student’s grasp of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Mathematics questions in JEE are particularly tough and require a deep understanding of concepts.
- NEET revolves around Biology, Physics, and Chemistry with a strong emphasis on Biology, as it plays the most significant role in the exam. Students also face questions on Botany and Zoology.

Eligibility Criteria and Age Limit
The eligibility criteria for JEE and NEET also have some differences:
- For JEE, students must have scored 75% or above in their 10+2 exam or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective board. The age limit is 25 years for general candidates.
- For NEET, students must secure 50% or above in their 10+2 exam. The age limit is 25 years, and for reserved categories like SC/ST, the age limit is extended to 30 years.
Frequency of the Exams
- JEE is conducted twice a year (January and April) which gives students two chances to improve their score and get a better rank.
- NEET, however, is held only once a year (usually in May), which means students get just one chance per year to secure admission into their dream medical college.
Which is Tougher: JEE or NEET?
While both exams are considered highly challenging, the difficulty can depend on the student’s strengths:
- For students with strong mathematical and analytical skills, JEE may be the tougher exam due to the complexity of the math problems.
- For students more comfortable with biological sciences, NEET can be equally tough due to the vast syllabus and the high competition level.
