Zomato, the popular online food delivery platform, has been expanding rapidly, showing consistent growth in both its profits and stock value. However, despite these positive developments, the company has seen a string of co-founders leave over the past few years. The latest to resign is Akriti Chopra, one of the key co-founders of Zomato, raising questions about what’s really happening behind the scenes.

    Akriti Chopra Bids Farewell

Akriti Chopra, the fifth co-founder to part ways with Zomato in the past two years, recently submitted her resignation to CEO Deepinder Goyal. According to reports, Akriti’s email to Goyal was emotional, reflecting the deep bond they had shared over the years. “Deepi, as discussed between us, I’m formally sending my resignation, effective from today, 27 September 2024. The last 13 years have been an incredible journey. I’m always just a call away,” wrote Akriti.

While the mail highlights the fondness and respect between the two, it doesn’t shed any light on the actual reason behind her sudden departure. Chopra is also the wife of Albinder Dhindsa, CEO of BlinkIt, a company Zomato acquired when it was formerly known as Grofers.

    Co-Founder Exodus: A Growing Concern?

Akriti Chopra’s exit isn’t an isolated incident. Over the last two years, four other co-founders have resigned from Zomato, including high-profile names like Gunjan Patidar (CTO), Pankaj Chaddha, Gaurav Gupta, and Mohit Gupta. The consistent departures have sparked rumors and speculation, leading many to wonder if Zomato is facing internal challenges.

    No Clear Explanation for Exits

Interestingly, none of these co-founders, including Akriti Chopra, have provided a clear explanation for their exits. Despite the company’s success on paper, the trend of high-profile departures has left investors and industry insiders questioning if there are undisclosed problems at Zomato.

What Does This Mean for Zomato?

Even though Zomato continues to grow, the frequent exits of its top leadership are concerning. Co-founders play a crucial role in shaping a company’s direction, and their sudden departures could indicate deeper issues within the organization. While Zomato’s public performance remains strong, only time will tell if these exits have a long-term impact on the company’s stability and growth trajectory.
