Rising Healthcare Costs Impacting Families
Medical expenses, especially for lifestyle-related illnesses, are soaring in India. The ACKO report, based on 60,000 health insurance claims, shows that healthcare inflation is growing. For instance, angioplasty costs have risen from ₹1-1.5 lakh in 2018 to ₹2-3 lakh in 2024 and could reach ₹6-7 lakh by 2030. Kidney transplant costs have also doubled in recent years, further straining the financial well-being of Indian families.
Men vs. Women: Health Insurance Claims in 2023-24
The data in the report provides interesting insights into gender-based health expenses. On average, men claimed ₹77,543 in medical expenses, while women (excluding maternity claims) claimed ₹69,553. Additionally, the report reveals that 69% of maternity claims are for C-section deliveries, highlighting a growing trend in delivery methods.
Age-Related Health Problems: Who’s Most Affected?
The India Health Report 2024 sheds light on common health issues based on age groups. Children under 18 frequently suffer from respiratory problems, accounting for 11% of claims in this age group. As people age, claims for tumors and heart diseases rise sharply. The report shows that heart disease claims are most common in Kolkata and Mumbai, while kidney-related claims are higher in Delhi NCR.
